The possum yarns we use are blended with merino wool to give a lightweight, soft yarn that is considered superior to 100% wool in warmth and wear ability. Possum(Opposum) is a hollow fibre yarn with anti static and anti pilling qualities with a luxurious handle which is a pleasure to wear.
The Brushtail possum is an introduced species that was released in New Zealand in 1837, however it has no predators and has become a serious threat to many native trees, plants and birdlife including the Kiwi. They are estimated to eat over 20000 tonnes of vegetable matter each night and the New Zealand Government is committed to try and eradicate this Pest.
